Welcome! I started this site as a place to update friends and family on the growth and everyday life of our first child. It didn't take long for me to realize, I had more to say about other stuff. (Imagine that!) So now I'm putting updates about our little acorns on our picture website at thewifetakesachild.shutterfly.com. (If you're a friend or family member of ours that hasn't gotten the e-mail invitation, let me know and I'll add you.)
I'll still post stuff here about parenting, but you'll also find posts about horse training, random rants, adventures in homemaking, and other updates that are just too long for a facebook status update.
About me:
After graduating at the top of my small high school class, I started collecting college degrees. I don't know what's wrong with me; I'm addicted to them. I have a B.A. with a major in biology and minor in environmental studies, a graduate certificate in zoo & aquarium studies, a massage therapy certificate and an equine science certificate. I'm currently working on my Infant-Toddler Montessori certificate, but it's been put on hold for a lottle bit. So what am I doing with all these degrees? I'm staying home to care for my children. I don't even have the degrees hanging on the wall. But I'm hoping this well-rounded education will come in handy since I'm hoping to homeschool our children.
Growing up, I never intended to be a stay-at-home mom. In fact, I didn't plan on staying at home or being a mom. I had no idea what I wanted to do, but I was pretty sure I wanted to get out of my little home town. After a three-month internship at a wild horse sanctuary in Northern California, I finally felt grounded. I decided I wanted to work with horses, and if I found a significant other, they better have country in their blood. About a year later I met my wonderful husband, who farms and drives a truck so I can stay home with our children. Oh, and I changed my mind about kids before ours came along. Somewhere along the line I decided I wanted to have lots of kids and be a homemaker. (Coincidentally, I was in Future Homemakers of American in high school, and thought it was the silliest thing, because I wasn't going to be a homemaker. It just goes to show, you never know what path you'll go down, and what skills will come in handy. Not that I actually learned any homemaking skills in this club, other than how to run a white elephant Christmas exchange.)
We recently moved to a beautiful farm that my in-laws bought so they could continue farming the land when the owner was ready to sell. Now we have dogs, cats, horses, chickens and a tortoise of course! This summer my father-in-law hopes to put some cows out under the Oak tress in back. Life is exciting and beautiful! We are so, so lucky!
We still have unpacking to do, and plenty of to-do's on our list. We're just trying to take it one day at a time and live joyfully. I'll try to find the time to let you in on our adventures here. And if you're friends or family, come join us!
